A thought from Sunday’s sermon. Much of Luke chapter 12 boils down to this:
We are of the kingdom
We live
not in the kingdom
but in the world
We must live
not in the kingdom
but in the world
As those who are of the kingdom

For so few words, you had my brain in a whirl wondering if I am missing something. Thinking harder, I think I got it. Basically, we are stuck here, but our behaviours need to reflect that our kingdom is not here. Right?
Success! I made you think. 🙂
Yes, that’s right. It’s a major theme running through most of the chapter.
In the early verses, persecution — because this world is still ruled by the god of this world, temporarily, and we are children of the kingdom, so we will be persecuted. Then, the theme of laying up treasures in heaven — because we are to live as those who are of the kingdom, rather than as those who are earthbound. Then, don’t worry, because we are of the kingdom, not of this world, and it is the Father’s good pleasure to give us the kingdom, so we certainly don’t have to worry about the things of this life — He knows all about them, too. Then, be faithful servants of the kingdom in this world, because the King will return.
It is all different aspects of the fact that we are of the kingdom, but living in the world, so we must live as kingdom-people in the world.
