Death is Ours

Some brief thoughts from today, for those who couldn’t be with us.

We grieve at the loss of a loved one, and it is right that we should, but we do not grieve as the world grieves, as those who have no hope.  We are Christ’s, and so death is ours.

I Corinthians 3:21-23

21 …For all things are yours;
22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;
23 And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.

Death is ours.  It belongs to us.

Death is Ours – It Takes us Home

Philippians 1:21

… to die is gain.

Philippians 1:23

…to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

 II Corinthians 5:8

…willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

When we die, our spirit goes to be with the Lord, which is far better.

Death is ours, for it takes us home.

Death is Ours – It Teaches Us

  • It teaches us to hate sin, the sin that caused death, the sin that brought death into the world.
  • It teaches us to appreciate the life that comes before death, to be grateful for what we have in this life.
  • It teaches us to look forward to the life that comes after death.  It teaches us to “set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.  For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:2-3).
  • It teaches is to love the Saviour who defeated death.

Death is ours, for it teaches us.

Death is Ours – It Gave Us Our Salvation

I Corinthians 15:3-4

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Without death, Christ would not have died, and without His death, we would have no salvation.

Galatians 2:20

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.

Christ’s death becomes spiritually ours, we are crucified with Him, when we become His.

Death is ours, for it provided our salvation.
