The blog has been quiet — I’m going through a very busy time. This post will be very short, just two verses from Proverbs that together are compelling. In many situations we face in life, ignoring tomorrow’s Proverb can put us in violation of today’s.
Today’s Proverb:
Proverbs 17:15
He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.
Tomorrow’s:
Proverbs 18:13
He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
Only God is able to perfectly reconcile love and justice, and only He can know the end of a matter before its beginning.
I would interpret the two verses you have given as meaning, amongst other thoughts, that God is not terribly happy when we try to behave as if we had His power and wisdom.
Hello, Fred. I agree. What struck me is how easy it is to wrongly condemn or justify, especially if we speak too quickly. We actually should be very careful about ever condemning or justifying another — there are always things we don’t know. Even when we know (which certainly does happen), it is often unprofitable for us to pass judgment (positively or negatively). As you say, that is God’s place.
