Coronavirus Lockdown — No Longer About Safety (part two)

II Samuel 23:3

The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

It is just for the Scottish Government to protect the safety of people who live here, and the Government claims the rules (including restricting outside gatherings to eight people) are about safety.  But what then of these pictures from 7 June and yesterday?

If coronavirus transmissions from this result in deaths, will these people be charged with culpable homicide?

Is it really about “safety”?  The Government is very clear about their political agreement with these people, and permits them to meet, but restricts Christians from meeting to worship (even with social distancing and face masks).  Is that just?

  1. Mark says:

This is a hoax, the desease is not what they say and see how easy the enemy has stopped the church from coming together, what have Christians been doing for centuries when persecution has come , they met in secret, when they were told they cannot exist , why are Christians in the west so afraid of the government, judgement starts in the house of GOD, some of us have been awake to what’s really going on , but to tell over Christians before this and we were called conspiracy freaks ect , GOD is judgement on the west is now coming to pass , did you think that all the sin ,killing millions of unborn children , homesexual acceptance, transsexual, porn ect , as the days of Noah, I could go on , the west deserves what is coming, be prepared, and know it is going to get really bad just as GOD has warned us about in the HOLY Bible, JESUS is coming back real soon , we are entering the great tribulation, dont doubt it , prepare the children of GOD , warn them , tell them for you will be accountable,

    • Jon Gleason says:

Mark, it can’t be both a hoax and God’s judgment. And it’s not a hoax, it is real and making many people very, very ill and killing some.

What it almost certainly is, is a warning. See Amos 4. The world, not just the West but perhaps especially the West, has pursued money and pleasure and thumbed its nose at God. It is not surprising that God would begin to remove His hand of protection (and yes, this is only a glimpse of what that means) as a warning.

Sorry, but we don’t know we are entering the great tribulation, the Bible doesn’t tell us when that will be, nor is it telling us that Jesus is coming back real soon, no man knows the day nor the hour. Yes, there are plenty of things that could point to that but we don’t know. I will be accountable for giving them the Word of God, not your predictions or anyone else’s.

Nor are we afraid of the government and if we have to meet in secret we will. But there is a real disease, it has killed many people and may kill many more. Government should act to protect against that, and Christians should obey proper government authority. What government has done, because it is run by people who don’t honour God, is use it to grab even more power. That should not surprise us, and it does mean we are being pushed rapidly towards a decision to obey God rather than man.

None of this means it is a hoax. We’re dealing with a government ignoring a warning from God and using it for its own purposes.

  2. Nancy Bryson says:

No, not just. The corona virus is a “plandemic” with many diabolical objectives. Heartbreaking to see many otherwise good local churches here in the USA abandoning God-ordained worship practices to slavishly adopt government directives / limitations / restrictions on NT commanded worship.

    • Jon Gleason says:

If the coronavirus was planned, the planning was extremely incompetent. Nor does it have many diabolical objectives. Many people and governments have diabolical objectives and are taking advantage of a disease to pursue their purposes. Maybe that’s what you meant.

But there is no Biblical reason for us to assume that a disease like this would not come on a nation or nations which have rejected God in so many ways. In fact, it would be surprising if things like this pandemic didn’t happen, and it is a mark of God’s grace that it hasn’t happened sooner.

  3. David says:

And thus the dynamic tension between Romans 13:1 – 5 and Acts 5:29.

Now throw into the mix that far fewer Christian now days are a well versed and studied in the Scriptures as they were even 50 or 60 years ago. Then add a mind-boggling array of conspiracy theories each baked with just a tantalizing amount of truth. Finally let it simmer and stew in a caldron of “shelter-in-place” with less than transparent government announcements. ‘Tis a recipe for kookiness. That is why we need the mind of Christ. That is why we need to be filled with the Spirit and to thus be discerning and filled with Wisdom from Above.
