Little Gifts

Just a quick thought today.  There are many small blessings, little gifts, that our Lord gives us which have no real eternal importance, no significance beyond this life or even beyond the day in which He gives them.

The food I just ate tasted very good.  He didn’t have to give my taste buds the ability to enjoy it, and it wouldn’t have been that important if I hadn’t enjoyed the taste.  As long as the meal provided nutrition, my life wouldn’t have been significantly worse in any way — that I liked the taste was just a bonus.

There are many things He gives us like that.  He gives such gifts to us because that’s the kind of God He is — He loves His children.

When we forget that those little gifts are gifts, and come to view them as something we deserve to have, we lose our sense of gratitude, part of our awareness of just how kind our Father is to us.  And THAT is important….

Psalm 68:19

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.
