Summary Posts

As my regular readers know by now, I like to write a series of posts/articles on a particular topic.  It isn’t always easy for new readers (or me) to find a series.  So I’m going to put together some brief summaries for some of those series.  I’ll post them and put a link in the sidebar.  This may also make it easier for regular readers, if they want to go back and look at something, to find it more quickly.

The first summary post will be for my “Bible in the British Museum” series.  I still intend to do more of those posts, Lord willing, and I’ll add to the summary post when I do.

The Foundation of Evolutionary Theory

God is the foundation of evolutionary theory.  The theory is so incredible that no one would ever believe this stuff if there weren’t a God to be rejected and denied.

Human “Races” have Intellectual and Moral Differences?

There is, however, no doubt that the various races, when carefully compared and measured, differ much from each other,–as in the texture of the hair, the relative proportions of all parts of the body….  Their mental characteristics are likewise very distinct; chiefly as it would appear in their emotional, but partly in their intellectual faculties.
– Charles Darwin (The Descent of Man, chapter seven)

So far as we are enabled to judge, although always liable to err on this head, none of the differences between the races of man are of any direct or special service to him.  The intellectual and moral or social faculties must of course be excepted from this remark.
– Charles Darwin (The Descent of Man, chapter seven)

*****

And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
– Scripture (Acts 17:26-27)

for there is no difference:
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
– Scripture (Romans 3:22-23)

Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
– Scripture (Acts 10:34-35)

Everyone Has LOTS of Faith

I drove down the motorway and overtook a lorry loaded with roof trusses, towering above my car.  Just as I passed, the thought hit:  I have a lot of faith to do what I’m doing here.

Bears aren’t Dangerous!

In Watership Down, the infamous General Woundwort calls to his fleeing rabbit troop, “Come back, you fools!  Dogs aren’t dangerous!  Come back and fight!”  For some reason, that came to mind when I read the following article.

Of course, dogs ARE dangerous to rabbits, and bears are dangerous, too.  It would be a fool who fights a bear without need and without weapons.

But Eric apparently lives near a lot of bears, and he rightly says, “Fear of bears should be very far down on our list of phobias.

A culture of death! We need not fear bears. We need rather to fear that which destroys our ability to cherish life and fear God. The fear of God breeds reverence for life and clarity of vision—the sense of awe at God’s beauty that moves us to live clean, constructive, peaceful, gentle lives. How desperately we need to spread the message of Jesus, the only antidote for our culture of death. “I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly”(John 10:10).

A good read, a great point.  I hope you’ll click through and read it all.  Here in Britain, we have so many obscure dangers which we guard against, while turning a blind eye to the things that are destroying so many lives in our society.

It also reminded me of the following from our Saviour.  He was talking about persecution, but the principal is broader — we worry about obscure temporal dangers and ignore the much more common eternal ones.

Matthew 10:28

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Everybody Believes SOMETHING

Some people stake their eternal destiny on their belief that there is no life beyond this one.  They have so much faith in this doctrine that they go through this life with no preparation for the next.

Mercy and Grace

Mercy

A loving God
spares us
the eternal punishment in Hell we earned by our sin

Grace

A loving God
gives us
the eternal life in Heaven we could never earn

Grace and Mercy

Two sides of the same coin.
God’s love
rescuing us from judgment and suffering in Hell,
giving us life and blessing in Heaven
